My mom was a great lady. I was a rebel. My mother, Virginia Ordeman was a wonderful Christian who prayed for me for all her life.
For about 5 years, I lived a very rebellious life. I was living the life of a hippie in Austin Texas-long hair, beard, and tattered clothes. The life I lived was filled with all the wrong things- drugs, immorality, dropping out of society, and biting the hand that fed me.
This lifestyle was grief to my mother. I would ride up to our home on my motorcycle looking like I just crawled out from under a rock, and there she would be, greeting me at the door. She would call me into the house, wanting to feed me. The disappointment would be on her face, but only for a little while.
Sometimes she would really get on my case about it. “We did not raise you this way,” she would say. My appearance, lifestyle and attitude were hurting her and I knew it. I was a reproach to the way she brought me up. But the rebellion in me was a strong influence.
During all that time she prayed. She prayed earnestly. She prayed in faith. Some people say they are praying for their kids, but in reality they are just worrying out loud. They say, “Oh, God you see how horrible my kid is, you see the terrible things he is doing and how he is hurting me! Oh, I am miserable… in Jesus’ Name, Amen!” That is not praying.
But my mother would claim the promise that her family would be saved and serve the Lord. She prayed believing prayers, unrelenting prayers, prayers that got God’s attention and brought His power into my life.
The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man(or mother) makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working. – James 5:16 AMP
I heard the story of a young man who was a drug addict. His mother was a praying Christian, who continually prayed for him. The Spirit of the Lord worked on him as she prayed, and eventually he checked himself into a drug rehab center. There the conviction of God’s Spirit continued in his life, working to bring him to a real life change. On one occasion in that drug center the conviction was so severe, that he ran outside and shouted up the heavens, “God, leave me alone!!!” He said he heard a response from the Lord, not audible, but in his heart, “I will leave you alone when your mother leaves Me alone.” He later became a Christian.
Praying moms who pray in faith can change the life of their children.
